What do the different names mean?
ALIGN
ALIGN is an alignment-based class. Poses are held rather than flowed through, and the instruction is precise — you’ll be told where a limb should be and why it belongs there. Classes usually build from simple standing work towards more demanding poses, finishing with relaxation and often some breathing work.Props are used throughout. They let someone with less flexibility work correctly rather than approximately, and they let a strong practitioner go further than they could unsupported. Reaching for a block is not a concession.
ALIGN suits anyone who wants to know what they are doing and why.
BALANCE
BALANCE is a Hatha class. Postures are held with attention to alignment and breath is coordinated with movement, with less linking between poses than in FLOW.Classes tend to start strong and settle towards something quieter by the end.
Good if you want to build stamina and concentration in static work.
FLOW
FLOW is a vinyasa class — breath and movement linked, poses sequenced into a continuous practice. There’s no fixed sequence. Each class has a theme, and some poses are held longer to build strength and stamina.A typical class opens with a warm-up, moves through standing work into something more demanding, then winds back down towards relaxation.
Alignment is taught here as it is everywhere at the studio. The pace is quicker, so you’ll be working with the sequence rather than pausing in each pose.
For people who like to keep moving.
STILLNESS
STILLNESS is a yin class. Poses are held on the floor for several minutes at a time, working into connective tissue and fascia rather than muscle.Long holds and very little movement leave room for the mind to settle, and most people find it quieting in a way an active practice isn’t.
Flexibility is not required. The props do the work.
STRENGTH
STRENGTH is a yoga class with weights. Light to moderate ankle and wrist weights and dumbbells are used through a sequence built on the same alignment principles as the rest of what we teach.
Movement is deliberate and paired with the breath rather than rushed, so the load is controlled throughout.
Classes open with something energising, move into targeted strength work, and finish with grounding stretches and relaxation.
Most people come for muscle tone and bone density.
