When you are in a rush and have not time to cook, or you are craving for a sweet bite, when you have to spend the whole day away from home, or even just an evening that you are at home and want to treat yourself, what would you prefer to eat in those situations? You’d rather run into the first place that comes across you and get a quick “healthy snack” to eat, or you’d bake these real healthy banana muffins on a Sunday afternoon and keep them in the fridge for the week that comes ahead?

Well, if you have chosen the second option, this article if for you. Majella Crennan, one of our yoga trainees, has shared this delicious recipe with us, so we could share it with all the super yogis whom follow us.

These are all the ingredients you will need for 6 muffins.:

1 tablespoon Coconut oil

2 tablespoon Maple syrup or honey

2 free range eggs

3 organic Bananas

½ cup of organic Oats milk

1 teaspoon of baking soda

½ teaspoon vanilla extract

Pinch of salt

½ teaspoon cinnamon

1 and 3/4 cups of organic coconut flour

1 tablespoon of cocoa and peanut butter

1 cup of organic Jumbo oats

2 or 3 tablespoon of Stevia

Put the bananas into a bowl and mash them with the aid of a fork.

Add in the coconut oil, maple syrup and eggs, combine all these ingredients well, until they form a runny paste.

Then add in the baking soda, vanilla extract, salt, cinnamon, flour and oats and mix well.

Finally add in the cocoa-peanut butter, the sweetener and the oat milk.

Bake them for 20-25 min at 180 °F.

Let’s all thank Majella for this lovely recipe, and do not forget to share your photos and comments with us when you bake them!

With Love

“I like to turn things upside down, to watch pictures and situations from another perspective.”
Ursus Wehrli

Many people thinking that they can not do an exercise do not give it the importance it deserves; this is usually what happens with the handstand, so we want to tell you the benefits of handstand to encourage you to practice it.

Inverted postures like adhomukha vrksasana, increase the blood flow to the brain, flush out the toxins that have collected there and also improve our capacity for thought and concentration. Inversions are a sort of spa treatment for the internal organs, as they help release pressure and can ease problems caused by varicose veins, In addition pressure on the heart is reduced as gravity aids the return of venous blood to the heart. When you practice handstand you stretch and strength your shoulders , arms and wrists, you calm down your brain and ease mild depression and you also improve your sense of balance.

How to do handstand?

From a loose downward facing dog, bring the hands onto the floor, shoulder width apart, fingers facing forward. Bring the weight into the full of the hands and walk the feet in, with legs straight and hips lifted. Bend one leg and take that foot further in, kick up with the straight leg as you kick away from the floor with the bent knee. Bring the two legs together, and straighten them up, sop that the whole body is vertical, over the base of the hands firmly on the floor.

To hold the asana, ground the base of all the fingers into the floor, engage the triceps, and push away from the floor. Open your armpits and lift the chest away from the mat. Draw your abdomen in, grip the outer hips in, and firmly straight legs, extending the feet toward the ceiling.

Warning! If you suffer from high blood pressure, pressure in the eyes, glaucoma, carpal tunnel syndrome, ear infections, do not come into handstand.

Do you want to learn how to handstand? Come see the world from a new perspective with Dearbhla Glynn this Sunday the 27th of May at 11:30am. She will lead a handstand workshop where you will develop some new techniques to approaching handstands. Book your place here https://templebaryoga.ie/yoga-dublin/events.html

Growing older doesn’t have to mean slowing down. Now is the time to fully embrace life, and the abundant opportunities Yoga has to offer.

New to Samadhi Dublin, Golden Yoga is designed for people over 60 years of age, and/or those who have physical limitations, who wish to start practicing yoga.

No matter what your age, fitness level or flexibility is, yoga practice can be adapted to meet your needs and your body’s ability.

Some of the benefits of practicing yoga include –
➢ Improved balance
➢ Improved flexibility
➢ Stronger muscles and bones
➢ Improved circulation
➢ Improved sleep
➢ Management of stress and anxiety
➢ It’s fun! It provides a nice way to meet like-minded people

Each Golden Yoga class begins by allowing us the time and space we need to become aware of our wonderful bodies and all important breath. At this point we also pay attention to our physical alignment and notice tactile sensations. We then start moving with some gentle warm up stretching, allowing us to prepare for the more energetic part of the class. Then, we spend time practicing classical yoga “asanas” (traditional physical yoga postures) and perhaps some “pranayama” (yogic breathing techniques). Classes conclude with a well-deserved deep and restorative relaxation.

Specific yoga props like chairs, bolsters, blocks and blankets are used to ensure we get the maximum benefit from our yoga practice.

Golden Yoga is offered in 4 week blocks. Sharon and Aiveen alternate teaching classes. Both teachers are passionate about sharing the benefits of practicing yoga with all ages and abilities. So they are thrilled to be teaching Golden Yoga!

Please Note: Steps are used to access the Samadhi Dublin building and stairs are required to access the studio.

The post GOLDEN YOGA – A Precious Class For Your Golden Years appeared first on Temple Bar Yoga.
April 2, 2019

Iyengar yoga is one of the most popular forms of yoga around the world, renowned for its care, precision, and attention to detail. At its core it involves sophisticated alignment instruction, creative sequencing, and detailed instruction in how to breathe. Created by Sri B.K.S. Iyengar, a great Indian Master who was one of the people who brought yoga to the West and really made it popular because he made it approachable for anyone. He felt that yoga was for everybody. No matter what the challenges — physical challenges, mental challenges or age — he didn’t see any limitation. He discovered that variations in alignment of a pose gave different results, and went on to pioneer the curative power of yoga for both the body and mind. Mr Iyengar has been acknowledged as the foremost yoga teacher of the 20th century. In 2004 he was named one of the 100 most influential people in the world by Time magazine, and he even taught the 85 year old queen of Belgium to stand on her head!

Credit: Time of India

This style of yoga has been around for over 60 years, and it is based on practices that are thousands of years old. Excellent posture, balance, and relaxation are major points of emphasis in Iyengar yoga. You don’t have to be young, flexible and healthy to do Iyengar yoga, anyone can benefit from this practice.

The Iyengar style of yoga provides a comprehensive framework for beginners learning yoga for the first time. This very structured introduction ensures that a solid foundation is established. As a result, more meaningful and consistent progress can be made, allowing the individual to reap more of the benefits of yoga.

Iyengar yoga is particularly good for beginners, because it places a lot of emphasis on the best possible alignment of the body for all the asanas. Body alignment and symmetry are very important, as is intensity of execution of the asanas. The poses in Iyengar yoga are done with great attention to detail, and each yoga student tries to achieve the poses to the best of their ability. For those just learning the poses, Iyengar yoga makes use of props, like cushions, cylindrical pillows, blankets, belts, and soft blocks. That way, if a student has not yet achieved the strength or flexibility necessary for an asana, the props can be used as learning aids. Props also allow the yoga student to hold positions for longer periods that might not be possible without them. Iyengar’s system consists of more than 200 classic asanas, including poses that are simple and easy for beginners, as well as very advanced poses, and everything in between. The asanas are categorized so that beginners can adapt them to their ability level while progressing to increasing levels of difficulty as their ability increases. Emphasis on correct body alignment allows the body to develop symmetrically while minimizing risk of pain or injury. Each student is encouraged to use props and work the asanas in whatever range of motion is safest and most effective for them.

“My Body Is My Temple And Asanas Are My Prayers” B.K.S. Iyengar

It is particularly well-suited to yoga students who have a meticulous approach to yoga and an interest in the body’s anatomy. Beginners who do not feel ready to participate in a “flow” practice of yoga (where each pose flows into the next) find Iyengar yoga to be educational and beneficial.

You can now learn the wonderful practice of Iyengar Yoga from the ground up with our most experienced teacher Greg Walsh. Join us on our upcoming 8 weeks course for beginners, starting on Monday the 15th of April, and learn the alignment principles, correct breathing, and an introduction to the philosophy of Iyengar yoga. Week on week, the foundation work will be sequentially introduced to give you a clear understanding of the particulars of Iyengar yoga practice, and to maximize healthy yoga development. Over the 8 week course you should expect to improve in mobility, strength and flexibility and bodily intelligence. Under the teacher’s guidance, each student studies at their own pace.
